ICC to Unveil New Arbitration Rules at Conference | Paris, Sept. 12-13, 2011

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Rules of Arbitration have been newly revised to take into account current requirements and developments in arbitration practice and procedure since the last revision in 1998. The new Rules are the product of two years of work within the ICC Commission on Arbitration, a think tank of 620 dispute resolution specialists from 90 countries. Texas Supreme Court Amends Its Ethical Guidelines for Mediators

The Texas Supreme Court issued recently some amendments to its Ethical Guidelines for Mediators. These amendments were adopted in response to recommendations from the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the State Bar of Texas and went into effect on June 1, 2011. IBA Annual Conference | Oct 30, 2011, Dubai

Jury Reaches Verdict in Jamie Leigh Jones v Halliburton/KBR

On July 8, 2011, the jury in the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas reached its verdict in the case of Jamie Leigh Jones v Halliburton Co. Charles Botz did not rape Jamie Leigh Jones on or around July 27, 2005; KBR did not commit fraud against Jamie Leigh Jones by inducing her to enter into the employment contract.

FINRA Announces Arbitration Motion Practice Rule

Effective June 6, 2011, under FINRA rules, a moving party will have a five-day period to reply to a response to a motion. According to FINRA, “this five-day period gives parties an opportunity to brief fully the issues in dispute, and ensure that arbitrators deciding a motion have all the motion papers before issuing a final decision.” FINRA’s press release is here.
