Armstrong Lawyers Claim $12 Million Arbitration Case is Closed

On Friday, attorneys for former professional bicyclist Lance Armstrong reportedly argued before a Dallas court that an arbitration case between the athlete and insurer SCA Promotions should not be revisited.  Not long after Armstrong publicly admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs when he won a record seven Tour de France titles, the insurance company sought to reopen a 2006 arbitration settlement between the parties valued at more than $12 million.  Since his admission, Armstrong has faced numerous multi-million dollar lawsuits.  He was also stripped of all seven Tour de France titles and banned for life from the sport.

In October, the three-arbitrator panel who created the 2006 settlement between Armstrong and SCA Promotions voted 2-1 to reopen the arbitration case.  According to attorneys for Armstrong, however, Texas law precludes such a move.  Dallas-based Judge Tonya Parker is expected to issue a ruling in the case this week.  Stay tuned to Disputing for more on this interesting case!
